The Tourist Department of the Santurtzi Local Authority wants its website to be both accessible and of use to the highest possible number of users, irrespective of their personal or technological limitations. Accordingly, its pages have been designed and checked as per the dictates of the 'Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0' as defined by the WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) working-party of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).
The purpose of these guidelines is to make it easier for everyone to access the information posted over the Internet. The following are the main measures that have been introduced:
Graphics
Descriptions have been included for all images.
Text size
The fonts used on the website have relative sizes; which means users can control their size through the browser they are using. The keyboard shortcuts for changing the text size are as follows:
Internet Explorer: Ctrl key whilst turning the wheel on the mouse. Mozilla / Firefox / Path: Ctrl +, Ctrl -, Ctrl 0 Netscape: Ctrl +, Ctrl - Safari: Command +, Command -
Keyboard shortcuts.
They provide quick and direct access to the different sections. There follows a list of the main shortcuts available on the website: 0: Home 1: Accommodation 2: Cuisine 3: Tours 4: Activities 5: Presentation 6: About Santurtzi 7: Publications 8: Contact 9: Accessibility
The way in which keyboard shortcuts are activated depends on the browser. The most commonly used ones are as follows: Internet Explorer (Windows): ALT + letter + ENTER Internet Explorer (Macintosh): Control + letter + ENTER Mozilla (Windows): ALT + letter Mozilla (Macintosh): Control + letter Mozilla (Linux): ALT + letter Mozilla Firefox (Windows): ALT + letter Mozilla Firefox (Macintosh): Control + letter Mozilla Firefox(Linux): ALT + letter Netscape (Windows): ALT + letter Netscape (Macintosh): Control + letter Opera 7.0 (Windows): SHIFT + ESC + letra Opera 7.0 (Macintosh): SHIFT + ESC + letter Opera 7.0 (Linux): SHIFT + ESC + letter Safari 1.2 (Macintosh): Control + ESC + letter Note: Netscape 4, Camino, Galeon, Konqueror, Omniweb, Safari (earlier versions than 1.2), Opera Windows/Linux (earlier versions than 7.0) do not accept keyboard shortcuts.
Design, browsing and interactivity
The aim has been to achieve consistent browsing throughout the entire website, applying the same structural layout to all the pages. In addition, links have been provided for direct access to page content and the use of JavaScript has been avoided whenever possible for interacting with the site. Furthermore, the information has been separated from its graphic presentation so that those users who so wish can browse through the content more quickly, disabling the download of style sheets in their browser.
Level of accessibility
An A Level of accessibility has been achieved. All Prioridad 1 verification points have been checked with the T.A.W. web accessibility tool in the automatic review mode, with the exception of those specific to the XHTML 1.0 language, which have been validated with W3C tool. The verification points in manual review mode have also been checked, as the T.A.W. used on them does not carry out any form of validation (it only lists the guidelines to be followed without checking the source code to be validated. More information).
